Curiosity Camp Volunteers

Curiosity Camp Volunteers

Curiosity Camps Youth Volunteers (ages 15-17) are essential to the educational mission of the RMSC’s camp program.  They’re energetic, enthusiastic, and hardworking.  Volunteers support paid staff in camp classrooms by helping campers with projects and play, assisting with science experiments, and preparing the classroom and supplies each day.  Volunteers help provide a fun and safe camp experience while sharing in the exploration of science!

Click here to apply. Applications due June 17, 2022.

All volunteers must submit an annual application and attend mandatory training on Thursday, June 23, 2022.  Volunteers that have completed a summer with Curiosity Camps are eligible to volunteer during consecutive February and/or Spring Breaks.

Qualifications

  • No prior experience necessary.
  • Volunteers must be between 15-17 years old.
  • Volunteers must enjoy interacting with children, think flexibly, grow from mistakes, work well with a team, and love learning.
  • We’re a science center— and a museum! Interest in the sciences, technology, the arts, and/or history encouraged (and celebrated).
  • Curiosity Camps Youth Volunteers must demonstrate maturity, self-confidence, and reliability. We expect all communication to come through you; so make sure you have access to, and can regularly check, a personal email account (this is how we’ll schedule weeks, coordinate training, etc.).

Commitments, Responsibilities, & Benefits

  • We’ve got eight week-long sessions this summer, running from Tuesday, July 5 to Friday, August 26.
  • Curiosity Camps Youth Volunteers must commit to the following:
    • A minimum of two full weeks. Weeks do not need to be consecutive, but volunteers must be available and present Monday through Friday during their scheduled weeks.
    • Daily shifts run from 8:30am - 4:30pm and include a lunch break on the RMSC campus. 40 hours per week are applicable towards school credit/hours requirements.
  • All volunteers must attend mandatory training prior to the start of the summer on Thursday, June 23, 2022.

  • Become involved in a community of lifelong learners and foster future volunteer and career opportunities.

  • Develop hands-on work experience skills in an informal educational setting.
  • Complimentary RMSC memberships! Volunteers with over 100 hours earn an individual membership. Volunteers with over 200 hours earn a family membership.

Important Note:

Communication skills are essential to a successful volunteer experience, and we’d love to let our volunteers drive this program!  As we aim to support the development of future job skills, we strongly encourage caregivers to support their volunteer’s growth by letting them initiate the process of becoming a volunteer, schedule camp weeks, and keep us in the loop with any other updates.

Volunteers may be dismissed from the program by Camp Administration if they are unable to fulfill their responsibilities, fail to demonstrate maturity and professionalism, violate policies laid out in the Curiosity Camps Manual, and/or repeatedly demonstrate the inability to communicate effectively.
